Mozambique represents an example of a country that has successfully achieved macro-economic and political stability after conflict. Despite a relatively steady transition, the country has been affected by high global food prices. In 2008, maize prices were 66 – 83 percent higher than their last year averages in different regions. The poor and urban households in the southern region of Mozambique are most vulnerable (WFP 2008).
