Achieving Food Security in the Face of Climate Change - Report from CSACC

The Commission on Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change has released a report for policymakers titled "Achieving Food Security in the Face of Climate Change." According to the report, global food security is constrained by three factors: the quantity of food that can be produced in a given climate; the quantity of food needed by a growing global population; and the effect of food production on the climate. Operating within this "safe space" will ensure food security in the coming years. However, according to CSAAC research, current trends in population growth, changing diets, crop yields, and climate change, if left unchecked, will place the global community outside of this safe space by 2050.

The report contains key messages and action items for policymakers to address this urgent need, including:
1. The integration of food security and sustainable agriculture into global and national policies;
2. A significant increase in global investment in sustainable agriculture and food systems;
3. The sustainable intensification of agricultural production and concurrent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions;
4. The development of targeted policies and programs to assist populations that are most vulnerable to climate change and food insecurity;
5. A reshaping of consumption patterns;
6. The reduction of loss and waste in the global food system.
